iStorage diskAshur2 Portable USB 3.1 Hard Drive
The 1TB diskAshur2 portable hard drive provides secure AES-XTS 256-bit encryption without the need for a third-party software utility. All data transferred to the drive is encrypted in real-time with the built-in hardware encryption engine. You need to enter your own PIN authentication via the touchpad on the case. It’s compatible with any USB port on a Windows, Linux, and macOS system.
These drives are meant for security as well as portability. The 1TB drive I’ve been using is small, and you can easily fit it in your front pocket. It’s light, too, at just 216g for the 1TB version – the 3-5TB models are a bit larger and slightly heavier. It has a built-in USB 3.1 cable (although too short for my liking), so you don’t have to worry about carrying a separate one around with you. It comes with a nice hand-carrying case to store it in, and the drives come in four different color schemes – Fiery Red, Phantom Black, Racing Green, or Ocean Blue.
These iStorage drives make it easy to move around with important data that you know will be safe. It makes encryption easy. There is no need to fuss with securing the drive with Windows BitLocker or third-party software. Using it the first time is as easy as its flash drive cousin. Plug it into your computer with the default PIN code. Then you will enter your new 7-15 digit code after that and then get to work. Since it’s a USB 3.1 device, you can expect quick transfers of files using a compatible 3.1 USB port. For example, I transferred large video files and folders containing hundreds of Microsoft Office documents in a flash. Once you’ve set it up and entered your PIN, it’s as easy to use as a typical unencrypted drive. The minute you unplug the drive, everything is encrypted automatically, making it easy to move secure data from one computer to another.
