The stories feature allows you to upload photos and videos to your profile to share thoughts, locations, and anything else you want. But if you’re on the go and the stories you create don’t post, you can take steps to resolve the issue. In this guide, we’ll show you the troubleshooting steps you can use to resolve a problem with stories not posting.
Restart the Instagram App
Like restarting your computer, restarting an app like Instagram can help resolve glitchy problems like stories not uploading. To restart Instagram:
Disable Airplane Mode and Verify Connectivity
One of the reasons Instagram isn’t posting your stories is due to poor or non-existent connectivity—you’ll want to verify that you have Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity. If you don’t, you’ll need to double-check that Airplane mode is switched off. On Android or iPhone, open Settings to the network settings section and ensure Wi-Fi or cellular data is enabled and you’re connected to a network. Also, ensure Airplane mode is toggled off.
You can also pull down your quick settings menu on Android or Control Center on iPhone and check that Airplane mode is disabled and you have network connectivity.
Clear Instagram Cache on Android
If you have problems with stories posting on an Android device, you can clear the Instagram cache. Clearing any app’s cache on Android improves its performance and speed, but Instagram’s cache of photos and video history adds up quickly. To clear it, open Settings > Apps & notifications and select Instagram. Tap the Storage & cache option and select the Clear cache button on the app’s storage screen.
Note that if you are on iPhone, the only way to clear Instagram’s cache is to uninstall and reinstall the app.
Disable Data Saver Mode
Another reason for stories not working is due to the Data Saver mode. With it enabled, the app takes longer to load media and stories, but you can turn it off. To disable Data Saver mode on Instagram
Log Out and Back into Instagram
If there is an issue with your account credentials, you might need to authenticate your account again. For example, if you recently changed your password on a different device or have multiple accounts, you’ll need to authenticate your account. To authenticate your Instagram account: Once you sign back in with the correct account and credentials, see if your stories are loading now.
Update the Instagram App
While your apps should update regularly in the background, it doesn’t always work, or you may have disabled it. In addition to new features, app updates include bug fixes that could be the cause of Instagram not posting stories. To ensure you have the latest version, check out how to update apps on Android.
