Plex Partners with Lionsgate
Lionsgate studio will join Plex’s existing partner Warner Bros. to further grow its library of content planned for the new service. However, unlike the deal with Warner Bros., which is limited to U.S. users only, Lionsgate content will be available for Plex users worldwide. However, Plex did note that there may be a few titles with geo-restrictions. “Lionsgate is one of the biggest names in the business and we know our millions of users will enjoy free access to their library of movies,” said Keith Valory, CEO of Plex. “Plex caters to the most passionate and discerning media lovers all over the world, so it is important for us to be able to bring great content like this together in one beautiful app for all of our users across the globe.” The free ad-supported streaming service is expected to roll out in late 2019. And since the stream of content is ad-supported, you don’t need a Plex Pass subscription to view it. The Plex software is free and available on virtually every platform out there. Plex began as a way to organize and view your local media collection across multiple platforms. But it is turning into the multimedia solution for all your media needs. It has continued to increase the amount of free streaming content it provides. You can use Plex to manage podcasts as well as catch up with some of your favorite web shows. In addition to free content, if you subscribe to Plex Pass you get premium services like a DVR for OTA television and access to Hi-Fi streaming music through the company’s partnership with TIDAL. With 20 million users, Plex continues to add new features and services and is turning into your one-top-shop for media.
